de Havilland Vampire F.2 "Elephant Ears"
Single-Seat Jet Fighter Aircraft
model kit from Czech
Master Resin.
For Information:
The Vampire F.2 was an experimental jet fighter powered by the Rolls-Royce Nene RB.41 engine rather than the usual de Havilland Goblin. Designed in 1945 by de Havilland with an aim to improve performance, an original order called for 60 F Mk.II aeroplanes, but eventually only three prototypes were built. It was a twin-boom mid-wing monoplane with a tricycle retractable undercarriage. Due to the two auxiliary intakes on top of the fuselage it was also referred to as the "Vampire - Elephant Ears".
In August 1948 one of the prototypes, TX807, was transferred to Australia to serve as prototype for licence production of the Vampire F.30 for the RAAF.
