Here are some photos
of my Halifax. The model was built straight out-of-the-box (with the
exception of the Aeroclub 'Z' nose), and is finished to represent a 51 Squadron
aircraft, HR727 'V'.
The kit went
together surprisingly well. I only had to undertake a little filling
around the wing-fuselage joins, around the cockpit, and the lower fuselage.
The model is brush-painted, using Humbrol enamels. Decals are from a mix
of aftermarket sources, and are applied over a coat of Precision Paints gloss
varnish, and sealed with a coat of satin varnish from the same manufacturer.

A departure from my
usual projects, in that any of the three different Halifax noses can be fitted.
It has not been
possible to determine which type of nose HR727 was fitted with, however it is
likely she had the "Tollerton Nose" ('Z' fairing).
Until hard evidence comes to light, the model will remain convertible!
On 5 October 1943,
while attacking the city of Frankfurt, HR727 was herself attacked, by a
nightfighter. Her port-inner engine was put out of action.
With failing equipment and dwindling fuel supplies, the aircraft became lost,
crashing onto Blackden Edge, in the Derbyshire Peak District.
Sadly, five members of the seven-man crew were killed.

(As usual, a small piece of wreckage from the crash site is enshrined within the
model).
