Perhaps I've
read too many stories about the Stuka, but even when parked, that's one nasty
looking aircraft. When I saw this 1/48 scale ProModeler kit at my friendly
neighborhood Hobby Lobby for 50% off, I jumped all over it. (Net cost
around $10.) Aside from some Eduard PE seatbelts , EZ canopy
masks and True Details resin wheels, everything else was OOB. There
are some minor headaches with fit on the dive brakes and the join between the
fuselage and the bottom wing assembly, just behind the bomb rack, necessitating
some serious wet sanding. Also, I couldn't use many of the EZ Masks for
the greenhouse canopy sections, since they are really designed for the Hasegawa
version. Many simply didn't fit properly. I elected to use the kit decals,
since I thought the markings for the Mediterranean theater looked pretty cool.
My references
indicated that this particular Stuka did not use the dreaded siren mechanisms
and mini propellers (optional pieces in the kit) mounted just above to
the landing gear spats. They were in fact covered with fairings.
As to paint, I used
Polly Scale Acrylics: RLM 70 Black/Green, RLM 66 Dark Gray, RLM 71 Dark Green
and RLM 65 Light Blue on the underside. Final finishing was done with PS
Clear Gloss and Flat Dullcote. (Outstanding stuff.) An oil wash was
used in many of the nook and crannies.
Purists will tell
you the Hasegawa kit is much better in terms of fit and detail, but the
ProModeler version makes a presentable rendition of the Ju87R-2 for a fraction
of the price.
Hope you like
it...and happy modeling!
