1/72 NOA-37B Dragonfly

A-37B Dragonfly, Academy 1/72, Superscale 72-646 A-37 Dragonflys

I am building a line of Edwards Airbase Test Birds at the moment, and this small jet aircraft was the beginning, together with the F-16B and the NF-4D, YF-4E and F-15 to follow. All “red-and-white-birds”, I like this colourful scheme.

There is not much to say about the kit and the building. The Academy kit is in my opinion the best Dragonfly kit around in 1/72 scale, with nice details, especially  the canopy-mechanism. The kit is build out of the box, I only added some photo-etched  seatbelts.

The painting was with Gunze and Tamiya-colours and my airbrush, beginning with a whole white aircraft and the red and black areas after masking.

The decals are from the Superscale sheet 72-646. The sheet contains decals for three Dragonflys, one USAF OA-37B in gunship grey, one OA-37B from the Columbian Air Force and this NOA-37B from 6512 Test Squadron, based at Edwards AFFTC, 1990 in a nice “test” colour scheme. The decal sheet includes all markings and data needed for all three aircraft.

This was a really fast and easy project and it was fun to build the model. And the result is a small but really nice jet.
