1/48 Tamiya FW-190 D-9

This is Tamiya’s FW-190D-9 built with Eduard’s PE set and some spares from Aires superdetailing set. I also used EagleCals decals #21 "Yellow Tailed D-9s, JG 54, JG 26 and JG 2". I chose to do "Yellow 1", W.Nr. 210003 flown by Oblt. Hans Dortenmann, Staffelkapitan 3./JG 26. These decals are excellent and I highly recommend them to anyone interested in the subject matter.

The kit itself went together very well, as most Tamiya kits do. There was need for a bit of putty where the wing joins the fuselage under the engine, other than that no putty was used.

I painted it using a mix of Tamiya and Gunze acrylic paints, for RLM 82 I used a mix of Tamiya paints, but I think it turned out a little too dark. For RLM 83 I used the Gunze paint. I painted the plane freehand using Paasche VL airbrush, this was the second Luftwaffe aircraft that I built.

Panel lines were accentuated with very dilute ModelMaster black enamel paint (gloss, flat doesn’t work very well for washes). I did some light weathering with pastels brushed on and then sealed with flat clear.

The aerial was made out of stretched sprue. The pictures aren’t the best, but I’m a novice when it comes to taking model pictures.
