Some might say (Oasis!!!!!), Ha! Again
another FW190 D-9! Well, this subject is fairly popular amongst the
modeling community and I really like that aircraft, so that gives two good
reason to build (and I had the luck or maybe the money to afford an original
Trimaster kit), so there it is. I will not explain the construction
because the fit of this kit is just perfect, so I will concentrate a bit more on
the painting.
I choose the scheme of Black 14, which was an aircraft from JG26 captured at the
end of the war in Germany. I decided to do this one because of the strange
design around the exhaust, and the NMF underwing, so I started by spraying the
entire a/c with SNJ and then polishing the underwing with powder aluminum
pigment, then I sprayed a clear gloss coat, to protect it. Then I
masked the underwing, and sprayed the RLM 84(Gunze H-74) , masked the side fuselage
and sprayed the RLM 82 and then on a free hand spray the RLM 83. After
that I sprayed the top fuselage, and sealed it. After the complete paint
job was finished, I applied an enamel wash in the panel lines.
Then, it was time for decaling ,so I used the
excellent Eagle decals (Eagle
Cal decal sheet #48-4) and they went on no problems - just a little bit of
setting solution, and that's it! Then it was the time to handle all the
details like the landing gear which were glued with 5 minute epoxy glue, which
is to me much better than superglue for white metal parts. When the a/c
was finished, I mixed 7 parts of Tamiya X-22 and 3 parts of Tamiya
X-21 and sprayed the entire aircraft with it, and a little post shading with a
sail color (Gunze H-85), very diluted, on every panel, et Voila! A
nice FW190 D-9 (well at least to me!).......As reference, I used the Green Hearts
book from Eagles Editions, where you can see this aircraft on picture. I
hope that many modelers will enjoy it .
